little moments
Do you ever have those days when you’re feeling bleh? Not sure what’s going on or what you’re supposed to be doing? I’ve been feeling that way more now than ever and it’s tough to get out of that slump and navigate through all the bullshit, treatments, and negative crap life throws at you.
For me, taking a little moment out of my day, week, or month, to do something just for me, makes a world of difference.
I may have mentioned this before, but I love makeup. I immerse myself in this crazy beauty world, learning about new products and techniques, watching YouTube videos, reading blogs, and it really takes me to my happy place. And I squealed with excitement when I recently came across Bite Beauty’s Lip Lab on my Socials.. I knew I had to book an appointment ASAP!
Located on Larchmont Boulevard (one of my favorite areas in LA), Lip Lab is a gorgeous little lip haven. Glossy white countertops, jars of colorful pigments, individual mirrors and seating, instantly, it all lured me in.
I opted for the bespoke service, which meant having two custom made lipsticks created by one of the lip lab artists. We started off by talking about the two colors I wanted to create – I knew I wanted a rich red and a pink. I always find it difficult to find the right shade of red for my skin tone, something that’s not too dark for everyday wear. We leaned more towards a cooler tone and my artist got to mixing, pulling jars of pigments in different shades (you can use up to three for each color). I could also decide on what type of finish I wanted, I chose matte for the red and luminous for the pink. She worked her magic and after making a minor adjustment to the first color, we moved on to the pink. I wanted something a little mauvey-pink with a hint of red, that may sound like gibberish but she knew exactly what I was talking about.
From there, I chose a scent for each color, cherry for the red and mint for the pink. They all smelled so amazing… I was probably hungry at that time. She then went to the back to mix larger jars of each custom color and used one of those paint spinners to incorporate the pigments fully. I loved watching this part of process just as much as selecting my colors. She poured the colors into a lipstick mold and placed the tray on a frozen metal plate. While we waited for the lipsticks to set, I was tasked with choosing a name for each of my new lipsticks, which they would engrave on the caps. This was probably the most difficult and hilarious part of this entire session. I literally had a brain-fart from all that pressure LOL. Luckily, my hubby helped me come up with the perfect names…
They really didn’t miss a single detail and I love how personalized my session was. This was such a fun and unique experience.. Yes, it was on the pricey side ($150+tax) but for someone like me (aka the makeup-obsessed), it truly was worth it.
Here’s to those little moments…Cheers!
